One Hour Cinnamon Buns

Ooey, gooey cinnamon buns you can make in an hour!

  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp highly active yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup warm milk I used 1%
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp table salt
  • 2-2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Filling

  • 5 tbsp butter room temperature
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Frosting

  • 1/4 cup salted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 8 oz room temperature cream cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk

  1. In a small bowl add warm water, the active yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir and then cover with a paper towel. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl stir together butter, milk, sugar and salt. Add the yeast mixture when ready and stir until just combined. Add one cup of flour and stir until smooth. Add the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time. Knead for 1-2 minutes. If the dough is too sticky you can add a little more flour.
  3. Once dough is nice and soft, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot. Allow dough to rise for about 20 minutes.
  4. While the dough is rising, make the filling. Combine the butter, sugars and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  5. Once your dough has risen, preheat the oven to 350F. Take the dough and punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface. You want to form a rectangle approximately 10x12 inches. Spread the filling onto the dough and then roll the dough up. Cut the dough into 1 inch pieces. Place the buns onto a buttered pie dish with them being about 1 inch apart. Let the cinnamon buns rise for about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350F for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool on a wire rack or cool surface.
  7. While the buns are cooking beat together in a mixer or with a hand mixer (or just stir really fast) the frosting ingredients in a large bowl and then spread on top of the buns after they are cooled. You can add more milk or powdered sugar to reach your desired consistency.
