10 healthy ingredient swaps

I find myself switching up tried and trued recipes with healthy ingredient swaps as of late. Curtis and I are trying to eat healthier than usual (hello wedding dress!) and I want these changes to stick. I don’t want to lose flavour, but still want to slash calories, fat and sugar out of our diet.

These swaps are ones for baking and regular savoury recipes. So far these are the easiest ones to remembers and are generally staples in our house. I would also suggest buying a spiralizer and swapping out pasta with zoodles. Sweet potato, zucchini, carrots, cucumbers.. So yummy and fresh!

Oh and cocoa nibs are not really a swap, but a good staple to have around for those cravings. They are full of dietary fiber, iron and magnesium, and I literally have a small handful and feel satisfied instead of chocolate.

Does anyone have any other healthy swaps to try? I’m always looking for new options.

  1. Dates for Sugar
  2. Nut flour for half the flour
  3. Zucchini noodles instead of pasta
  4. Flax meal instead of egg
  5. Avocado instead of mayo
  6. Apple sauce for half the oil
  7. Frozen pureed bananas instead of ice cream
  8. Greek yogurt instead of sour cream
  9. Coconut oil instead of milk
  10. Rolled oats instead of bread crumbs

Seems easy right? I feel these are simple swaps that you can incorporate into your everyday life. My spiralizer has become a staple in our kitchen, along with having an ongoing supply of avocadoes and frozen bananas. Love me a smoothie!

    This was a great list! I always forget that I can sub apple sauce in for oil! I need to remember to use that when I’m baking. Pinning for future use!

    I’ve never tried any of these swaps. I’m not very adventurous in the kitchen and the hubs is usually very skeptical of changes like this. I’ll show this to him anyway!

    I love this list huge healthy swap fan. One of my personal faves from the list is Zucchini noodles instead of pasta.
    I was telling someone yesterday that cauliflower pizza crust and cauliflower baked buffalo wings are also great swaps

    I need to try the pureed bananas. And I love using avocado as a condiment when I can. Right now all the avocados in my grocery stores are too far gone or ready to be made into guacamole.
