Restaurant Post – Chambar

On Sunday afternoon, we enjoyed brunch at Chambar in Gastown.

It was our first time there and I’ve spotted amazing photos of their new space and menu online, so we had to try it. They are located on Beatty Street and moved next door where they have a bigger space and a great patio.

Herringbone floors cover the space along with glass Omer Arbel chandeliers.

The bar looks amazing and is very well equipped for cocktails to their vast beer list. There are leather banquettes, dining tabletops to high tops for seating, along with a cozy, chic lounge on the lower level. Glass windows line the space going from floor to ceiling, allowing a lot of natural light to enter the space.

I ordered the Saumon Fume, which was a toasted ciabatta with a fried egg, smoked caper cream cheese, avocado, and an arugula, artichoke salad. This was delicious; the flavours were bright and tasty. My egg was cooked to perfection and my salad was a fresh pop to the savoury flavours of the rest of the plate. The ingredients used were of high quality, you can tell by taste and presentation.

Curtis ordered the Oeuf et Steak, a 6oz marinated butchers cut topped with chimichurri, fried egg and chargrilled corn bread. He ordered the steak to be medium rare, and it didn’t disappoint. I had a taste of his plate and the flavours were spot on. The steak was tender and so flavourful with the addition of the chimichurri, the cornbread was soft with a nice crust, and his eggs were again cooked perfectly.

Plates of waffles kept passing us on the way to other diner’s tables. Even though we were content, we had to try them. I ordered a waffle with their mixed berry sauce and Curtis had a waffle with salted caramel sauce. The waffles were Belgium style and each was prepared flawlessly. Both sauces were delicious, the salted caramel was addicting and my mixed berry had a nice vanilla essence to it.

Overall, I cannot wait to come back for dinner and cocktails. The service was attentive and pleasant. They have a lounge on the lower level that overlooks the beginning of Keefer Street. Chambar’s decor and lighting creates an inviting ambiance to enjoy cocktails with friends. I don’t use the word exceptional often, but in this case it fits.
