My GoodMorning.com Apollo Mattress Review
Curtis and I have been wanting to get a new mattress for months. Maybe because we bought ours in our old apartment a few years ago, maybe because we had a baby this year and a comfortable bed became even more important to us, or maybe we are just getting old and our joints needed something more supportive. I’m going to guess the latter is a big factor, we are nearing the age of 40.
After browsing the traditional mattress stores and the mattress in a box site, we decided on GoodMorning.com and their Apollo Mattress. It was easy to choose, you can take their Mattress Matchmaker Quiz that also factors in if you are sharing the bed and that person’s needs. The quiz then gives you two options based on what you answered and for both of us, it came back to Apollo so that was a real simple decision.

The GoodMorning.com Apollo Mattress is a Copper Hybrid (which starts at $949), which means it is a combination of foam and micro-coils. It was born out of the latest advancements in sleep technology. It’s only sold exclusively in the Canadian market and offers six sizes. Like all their mattresses, it is shipped in a box that includes a 15-year warranty.
What sets this mattress apart from the others:
- The copper layer is infused with one of the Earth’s most powerful conductors to keep you feeling cool all night.
- Excess body heat is rapidly transported away instead of getting trapped beneath you. I’m a hot sleeper, I generally run really warm, sometimes too warm that it bothers Curtis so this will be a lifesaver for me at night.
- Tucked into the middle of the Apollo, there is this full layer of breathable micro-coils that creates a central channel that guides warm air out and away from your mattress, reducing heat retention. Honestly, when you put your hand on the mattress it just feels cool.
- Has ergonomic support for our side and back sleepers.
Did you know the average person turns over or changes position between 30 and 40 times per night? I believe it, I know I used to! What I also love about the Apollo, is that it neutralizes motion waves before they have a chance to travel across the mattress and disturb your sleep. So when I wake up to use the bathroom because I’m guzzling water all day (breastfeeding woes), I don’t wake Curtis anymore. I’m not exactly the most graceful person getting back into bed in the pitch black, many a stubbed toe to be had.
What made us want to look for a mattress now? I noticed a couple of months ago that I found our old mattress so uncomfortable and uneven after a few years. It was time to move on from our mattress, it was an amicable split. We do, after all, spend a third (1/3!) of our lifetime sleeping, so to spend money on a mattress is a worthy investment. When was the last time you bought a new mattress? If it was more than 10 years, then you are overdue just like us!
If you are like me, in a relationship, you know the compromise to make when selecting a mattress. You need to find the one that fits both your sleep needs, kinda like picking out a home on a house-hunting show, if you both don’t agree it will never work out. I feel that the Apollo mattress ticks off both our wish lists. I love having peace of mind, knowing that if we are not 100% satisfied with the Apollo mattress after 120 nights of sleep, we can return it fast, free, and easily.

OK, some more pros on getting a mattress from GoodMorning.com
- The fact that your mattress is delivered to you via mail, in a box, that you can recycle and set up fairly easily.
- You have those 120 nights to get a feel for it because let’s face it, that testing out mattresses in a store for mere minutes, you can’t really know how you like it while the store salesman watches you laying on it haha.
- A Canadian brand based out of Edmonton. They have been making mattresses for over a decade! (Formerly known as Novosbed)
GoodMorning.com offers you the quality you’d expect and deserve, and since they sell directly to the consumer, they cut out that retail markup. - And it’s great peace of mind that if you do end up returning your mattress, they donate it to a family in need. They do their best to donate returned items to Canadian charities and community organizations that distribute them to people in real need. So they prevent the mattresses from ending up in your local landfill.
Alright, back to the mattress unboxing. Rowan was watching us unroll the mattress in our bedroom and take the pillows out of their boxes. They instantly started to expand, she was just staring at the bed from her activity centre haha. It was pretty cool, I even took a little time-lapse for myself to see. And we unboxed it around noon and slept in it that night! I didn’t know what to expect in terms of it expanding in time and it was fine by early evening. We were both super impressed because it was rolled so tightly in that box, incredible how it comes out.

You’re probably wondering, are there any cons to this mattress? Yes, there are a couple, well cons for us, someone might not even think anything of them.
- When we first opened the mattress, it did have a bit of a chemical smell, but that dissipated fairly quickly. I think more from the plastic wrap than anything, once that was removed from the bedroom it cleared up quickly.
- It does take a few nights getting used to it. Definitely not a bad thing considering what we were feeling before from our old mattress each morning. Much better in comparison!
