My Current Top 7 Favourite Face Masks

Clarifying, brightening, moisturizing, and more formulas — you name it, I’ve tried them. These 7 potent picks are my favourites. Face masks have become the foundation of any luxurious skincare routine. No matter how tired, stressed, broken-out, or dehydrated your skin may be, there’s a face mask out there to actually help it recover and return your natural glow. But with more ways to apply them than ever before—sheet, mud, gel, peel-off—and tons of clean options, it can be hard to determine which facial mask is right for your skin.

I did the homework for you, rounding up my favourite masks, so you’ll find your new favorite (or two, or three). Ahead, the 7 essential face masks for your next spa night. Plus check out my sheet mask post, there are so many options for those from luxury to drugstore! What’s great about skincare in 2021, is that there are so many great face masks available at every price point, found at Sephora to your local drugstore. So take advantage and try a couple of new ones out there within your budget.

7 Of the Best Skincare Face Masks

While a face mask may not necessarily be an everyday staple in your skincare routine the same way, say, a cleanser or sunscreen (something not to skip!) might be, there’s no denying that it’s a very beneficial add-on. Packed with good-for-your-skin ingredients, it’s one of the easiest ways to give your complexion a little extra TLC, stat. (Not to mention that masking always makes for a great self-care moment.)

I know, I can hear a few of you asking, do face masks really help your skin?

Yes, they can. Incorporate one into your regimen once or twice per week by applying it on your clean, dry face, avoiding the eyes and mouth (unless the mask is made for those areas). Remove it per packaging instructions, and follow with other leave-on skincare products as directed or needed.

How do I find the best face mask for my skin type?

  • If you have oily skin,  Look for terms like “purifying,” “clarifying,” or “detoxifying” on product packaging.
  • Face masks for dry skin should be labeled “hydrating,” “moisturizing,” or “nourishing” and contain softening ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and plant oils and butters.
  • For sensitive skin, look for terms like “soothing” and “calming” on mask packaging and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as aloe and oat.
  • For combination or normal complexions, look for face masks targeted to your current skin needs or goals (i.e. brightening, pore-minimizing, acne breakouts, etc.). Or try “multi-masking” and spot treat certain areas with specific masks, like a purifying formula for an oilier T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and a hydrating formula for the rest of the face.

Since we have all been spending a whole lot more time indoors, we are definitely doing a lot more at-home pampering, which I love! I have gotten a lot of messages asking me to share my current favourite face masks. I do share my empties on Instagram stories but have been meaning to share this post.

Anyway, now that I’m home every night, hello pandemic AND baby, I have been doing a LOT of masking lately and these are the 7 I’ve been reaching for most! Is there any better combo than wine, movie, mask? Nope!!!

My Top 7 Favourite Face Masks

I’ve been highly into a double mask situation lately. Usually a deep cleanse/clarify/exfoliate, followed by something really hydrating and moisturizing. Any combo will work – you will be glowy afterward!

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

This all-natural exfoliating mask can burn and tingle a bit, so it’s not ideal for sensitive skin. But if you can take the heat, you’ll emerge with skin brighter, softer, smoother than you ever thought possible outside of a spa.

It is SUCH a good mask!!! This is probably my all-time favorite mask. Which is a very big statement, I know! I don’t take it lightly. I love this mask so much. It really does everything. It exfoliates and brightens. Leaves you super glowy, AND it firms.

Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask

The formula is satisfyingly thick without being greasy or heavy, which means it sinks right in and doesn’t stick to my pajamas, an annoyance I’ve encountered with other night creams. This overnight mask seem to deliver on the promise of being both smoothing and firming; plus, the smell is wonderful — just a mild, clean scent that isn’t overpowering or cloying.

Vichy Liftactiv Collagen Mask

OK, technically not a mask, but I slather it on at night or during the day before a shower as one. As you can see from this list, I love a good overnight mask! With a baby, my priorities changed, along with free time, so if I can get a product that I can use without much fuss, I’m sold. I really also love using their Hylaru Mask, also really replenishing and you know what is great about both? You can find Vichy at most drugstores!

The Collagen Specialist has a silky finish that works well under makeup and creates a non-greasy barrier that shields against external aggressors. When used frequently, blemishes begin to fade and your profile may appear toned and defined. Think of this anti-aging cream as your daily collagen boost.

Skinceuticals Clarifying Clay Masque

I turn to this when I am suffering a breakout. It is a non-drying face mask that combines kaolin and bentonite – the highest quality of natural earth clays – to decongest pores and lift impurities, botanicals, and minerals to help calm and heal skin, and a 5% hydroxy acid blend for gentle exfoliation. It doesn’t dry my skin out, rinses off easily and a little goes a long way, so you don’t go through this pricey mask quickly.

Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask
Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask

LANEIGE is well known in Korea (and around the world) for its famous Sleeping Masks. The brand has 6 different ones, including one for lips, which is almost as popular as the ones for the face. In this Cica Sleeping Mask, you won’t find silicone, perfume, or dyes. I’m not going to say that the list of ingredients is completely natural, it’s not, but I do find it really interesting!

The Cica Sleeping Mask gives me comfort again as soon as I apply it and I wake up the next morning with very smooth skin (thanks to acids) and also calm thanks to the LANEIGE sleeping mask! At first, this very creamy texture seems quite thick but very quickly, it melts and literally blends into the skin. The next morning, my skin doesn’t feel oily at all, on the contrary. It looks very velvety and feels very comfortable and repaired.

Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask

The Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask consists of two steps. The first step is a cooling gel that gives the skin a hydrating boost of rose extract and hyaluronic acid, then it’s all locked in with step two which is a moisturizing water-cream mask that works with time-release technology overnight.

It’s pricey, if I use this nightly, I don’t think it will last super long because each step has its own side of the jar. If I had to guess, I could probably use this for approximately 2-3 months (60 to 90 days) with consistent nightly use.

Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant

When I heard about the Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant, I was intrigued by the fact that “hydro” and “exfoliant” were both in the name. The mask is amazingly cut and dry. It didn’t burn, feel greasy, or leave my skin dried out. It was easy to wash off, even after “activating” the exfoliating spheres. And afterward, my skin felt like my skin — just a little bit more plump and relaxed.

To hydrate, it contains Snow Mushroom, which holds 450 times its weight in water. It also infuses the skin with vitamin D and antioxidants. Other ingredients include Phytolipids, which help to strengthen the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Tell me if you are a face mask person and what your favourite face mask at the moment is in the comments! I do have to admit, I have a larger collection than most people and probably could have made this list a whole hell of a bit longer than it is.
